At Last! New Toilets at Gunnersbury Park!

The Friends of Gunnersbury Park and Museum sponsored a small celebration of the completion of the new toilet block beside the Victorian kitchen wing of the Large Mansion on the morning of Tuesday 14 December 2010.

Representatives of the project team came along for mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and mince pies on a chilly morning.

The picture shows, left to right, James Wisdom (Friends' chairman), Callum Sayers (Hounslow planning dept), John Catlin and David Cannon from B&H (main contractors), Cllr Corinna Smart (Hounslow cabinet member responsible for Gunnersbury), Dave Rothwell (John Laing Integrated Services, contractors who manage the park and museum), Bridget Gregory (Ealing project manager), Richard Gill (Regeneration Manager), Maggie Urquhart (Hounslow conservation officer), Peter Reid P2Design (architects) and Sean Doran (Hounslow planning officer)

The Conservation Management Plan for Gunnersbury identified poor visitor facilities as one of the major issues facing the park today. Ealing Council decided to step in and help to address this by funding the demolition of a dilapidated toilet block no longer fit for purpose and the construction of a new one.

The project team consisted of the Project Manager, Ealing Council, P2 Design Ltd, Bolt & Heeks Construction and Train & Kemp Engineering Business Solutions. The team worked closely with the Senior Historic Buildings and Areas Advisor for English Heritage, the Conservation Planner, Hounslow Council and the ‘Secure by Design’ Team.
